My Vote

One week left to #Vote in the Midterms! We may disagree politically and that’s ok 💙 show it at the polls.

As we head into the last week of voting I wanted to share why I’m voting Blue.

•failure of the GOPs Leadership

•a woman’s right to choose

•fixing the grid

•expanding Medicaid

•LGTBQ+ rights

•cannabis legalization

•better funding public schools and teachers

•putting an end to standardized test

•saving our democracy

•climate change

•lowering property taxes

immigration reform

•the right of a child to go to school without the fear of being gunned down

I do not believe there is such a thing as “Pro Life” when it comes to pregnancies – unfortunately the sad truth is once someone is pregnant no one can give them a 100% guarantee that they will not die by carrying the pregnancy to full term. The same is said for the child. Complications happen all the time, which is why this is not a black and white issue and should only be made by the direct person(s) involved with consultation from a professional and not a male politician who has never had or ever will have to endure the risk of pregnancy. In a state where the governor refuses to take money allocated from the federal government to help fund and expand Medicaid is not pro life!! He’s actively refusing life saving money 🤦🏻‍♂️

TX ranks far behind other states in the nation when it comes to equality, healthcare, education, and voting rights. That’s nothing to be proud of and clearly is a failure from the top down.

Living through the freeze without water and electricity was a nightmare. The things I had to do to stay warm in my own house were beyond insane (including but not limited to searching my neighborhood for any spare wood i could find so that I could make a fire in the fire place). The governor was warned this could happen and chose to do nothing about it. Once again total failure in leadership.

What this state has done to the transgender community and their parents is horrific. How someone can once again claim they’re pro life when the policies they enact actually results in lives needlessly being ended. If Abbot has his way he will continue to work against the Lgtbq+ community and continue rolling back basic civil rights in the name of God but the truth is it’s to continue these cultural wars to focus on anything but the horrible job he has done as governor.

I’m pretty sure a large percentage of Texans use cannabis in one form or another. Why the state is refusing to cash in on that I have no idea. If we’re willing to allow cigarettes, alcohol, sugar, caffeine but not cannabis doesn’t that make us hypocritical? Texas has the farmland for a booming cannabis industry that stands to only benefit the state and its residents.

Public education is the strongest tool a state or nation can have. In todays world we need an educated population that will continue to move us ever forward in science, technology, engineering, energy, money, global crisis, etc. We must not take teachers for granted because they are the ones who have to do the hard work of getting young minds inspired to want to learn more about the world around them.
